For three days, national and international experts - from Australia, Canada, the United States, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo - gathered at the Athénée de Kolwezi to discuss advances, challenges and innovations in tailings management and the construction of safe, sustainable dams.

Key presentations focused on :

1. Responsible management of tailings facilities (MMG Kinsevere, TFM, Metalkol, KCC);

2. Soil contamination prevention systems and methods for optimizing residue deposition;

3. National guidelines for the safe management of mine tailings in the DRC ;

4. The contribution of the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD) to the safe design of hydraulic infrastructures.

Other highlights of the conference included a technical visit to the Nzilo hydroelectric dam, and a tour of the Mupine tailings facility (Kamoto Copper Company - KCC), enabling participants to put theory into practice.
